05 Occasion not on record

One bottle, opened with the back of a knife instead of by hand: the neck came off clean, cork and wire still in it. Emptied over the course of an evening, the foil torn off in pieces, the label left to soak in the ice bucket. The next morning, bottle and neck were bagged together and sealed with tamper-evident tape, the way evidence is sealed after a night nobody took notes on. Since the reason for the celebration was never recorded, that is what the bag says. Kept, not discarded.

04 Relic

One lemon, used three times: the peel zested for a recipe, both halves juiced, and the spent halves used to scrub a calcified sink. After that, dried at 40°C until the flesh turned tacky. The gold is loose leaf, 23.75 carat, applied without any adhesive, since the dried juice itself holds it in place. It sits where the fruit worked and nowhere else. Photographed within minutes, then fruit and gold went in the bin.

03 Waterproof

One sheet of paper towel, taken off the roll and embossed. The sheet was then impregnated until it stopped doing its job. Water poured onto it stands in a pool, beads at the edges, and runs off the sides. It absorbs nothing. Photographed with the water still standing, then binned, the rest of the roll kept in service.

02 One Way

One single-use deposit bottle, emptied and carried around for a while. It was stepped on in a meadow, thrown against granite, and dragged across tarmac until the label gave in. The dents are real, the biography is not: a tournament sticker, blank where the name should be, was designed, printed, and applied by hand. Photographed as found objects are photographed, then returned for deposit. 25 cents.

01 Empty Banana

One banana, scored with a scalpel before anything else: twelve strokes in standard tally notation, every fifth one diagonal. Then a night of waiting while the marks darkened and raised themselves out of the peel. Only after that was the banana peeled and eaten, the skin tossed down into a random pose and photographed from above. It went in the organic waste the same day.
